With “Gone,” Dierks Bentley is Back!

All day long, all day long, I’ve been sitting on the couch watching Dierks Bentley all day long!

In Dierks’ new single releasing today (10/22/20) at noon EST on radio, he may sing a lot about being “Gone,” but he’s definitely back! The melody is catchy and the lyrics are cleverly written by Nicolle  Galyon, Ben Johnson and Niko Moon and produced by David Garcia.

On The Bobby Bones show this morning, Bobby asked Dierks if this was a new producer after playing a clip of "Gone."

"That's good ears! I think every album you want to make it feel like the first time.  I was looking to be inspired, writing with Hardy and David Garcia, having so much fun writing with them and just enjoyed it and really got to know David well. I'm always trying to make it feel new. There's this main theme in all my music which is trying to mix bluegrass with the kickass, trying to mix the dobro and banjo with big guitars and big drums--always trying to find a way to do that better.  So I love what David does, he produced and wrote "Meant To Be" for Florida Georgia Line and he has that sensibility like Ross Copperman does, and taking what I know--the banjo, dobro and fiddle and incorporate those two sounds, so it sounds new to me.  The fact that you [Bobby] picked up on that means the world to me because I'm trying to tweak it a little. I don't want to do the same thing every time."

His buddies, boss, momma and neighbors all think he’s the physical kind of gone, but it’s his mind that’s missing after a breakup, “trying to figure out how a good thing went wrong.”  But it’s Bentley’s heartbreakingly poignant vocal that takes the break-up song to a sadder than a “Say You Do” country song low.

When we first heard it ‘live’ on the online fan wall of the iHeartCountry festival, “Gone” was not leaving our ears, all up in our heads for weeks! We were hooked on that piano intro!

Time to do your duty, DB Congress reps! After you hear it on radio today, start requesting the song through your local country radio DJs.

My buddies think I’m on the lake

Boss thinks I’ve been sick for days

Momma’s probably on her way

Cause I ain’t picked up the phone

I’ve been a million places but they’re all up in my head

Over drinkin’ over thinkin ever since you left

I’ve been gone, I’ve been gone

I’ve been sitting on the couch watching tv all day long, all day long

I’ve been trying to figure how a good thing went wrong

Faster than that freight train

Farther than that airplane

Sadder than a country song

Headed down that highway

Anywhere but my way

Ever since you moved on

I’ve been gone

Took a trip down memory lane

Checked into hotel heartbreak

Passed rock bottom all the way

Without leaving my living room

I’ve been a million places but they’re all up in my head

Over drinkin’ over thinkin ever since you left

I’ve been gone, I’ve been gone

I’ve been sitting on the couch watching tv all day long, all day long

I’ve been trying to figure out how a good thing went wrong

Faster than that freight train

Farther than that airplane

Sadder than a country song

Headed down that highway

Anywhere but my way

Ever since you moved on

I’ve been gone

Yeah, I’ve been gone

All the clothes are on the floor

All the mail is by the door

All the whiskey bottles in my bed

All the dishes in the sink

All the gas is in the tank

All the neighbors probably think I’m dead

I’ve been gone, I’ve been gone

I’ve been sitting on the couch watching tv all day long, all day long

I’ve been trying to figure out how a good thing went wrong

Faster than that freight train

Farther than that airplane

Sadder than a country song

Headed down that highway

Anywhere but my way

Ever since you moved on

I’ve been gone

Yeah, I’ve been gone

Gone

Dierks Bentley at the Opry 95th Birthday Celebration

The first live concert post-quarantine was a balm to our live music deprived souls.  A few DB Congress members were some of the lucky few that were able to attend the Opry’s 95th Birthday Celebration on Saturday, October 3, 2020.  This was the Opry’s first night with a live audience since March.  The bill included Vince Gill, Lorrie Morgan, Terri Clark, and Dierks Bentley.

The Opry offered the first of the 500 seats to those with tickets originally for October 3rd.  After that, tickets went on sale to the public and sold out quickly.  The Opry was able to assign seating with social distancing in mind.  Our pew of four did not include anyone else.  Of course, masks were required while inside and outside of the venue.  Ushers were strict about social distancing while in line to enter the venue.

The last fifteen minutes of the one hour show featured Mr. Dierks Bentley.  Seeing the band and Dierks on stage together again was incredible.  Terri introduced Dierks and mentions his 15th Opry Anniversary (cheers), her collaboration with Doug on the Hot Country Knights- The K is Silent album (crickets), and Dierks’ collaboration with her on her Christmas album (cheers).  That’s okay with us, HCK can continue to be our best kept secret.

Dierks and the guys opened the set with Burning Man, the first track on The Mountain album and the name of the 2019 Tour.  Although this song was written by Bobby Pinson and Luke Dick, it fits Dierks to a T.  Faron Young’s song Goin’ Steady was the second song chosen by Dierks to honor a musician from the past.  He gives listeners a great rendition and a nice ending note that is reminiscent of a yodel.  To close out the show, Dierks was joined by Vince, Lorrie, and Terri to sing Will the Circle Be Unbroken (By and By) single by the Carter Family.  As you can imagine, the entire audience of 500 joined in on the song.

Of course, the set or shows are never long enough.  But these four DB Congress members had a memorable night at the Opry and trip to Nashville.  See some quotes from the night below as well as the link to view the entire show.

Truly Yours,

Michelle

Michelle (DB Rep from Texas) states, “When Vince opened the show, those first few notes were just incredible. Not having live music for the last seven months has been very sad.  The virtual tidbits we've gotten from Dierks has just not been enough.  I hope a full tour will be here soon!”

“Hearing & being a part of live music again...it was one of those “heart pounding out of my chest” moments & the fact that it was Dierks at The Opry made it even better!!!!”  says Mary Lou (DB Rep from North Carolina).

When the time came and that curtain opened I wasn’t thinking about my mask, how many people were in attendance, or how we were amongst the first people to sit in the seats of the Opry house since March.....The only thing on my mind was the music! Live in person music for the first time in months......and in that moment everything made sense. Music has always had a way of healing my soul ❤️ and Dierks and the rest of the band being there was an added bonus 😉 ”, states Nichole (DB Rep from Florida).

Tracy (DB Rep from Mississippi) says, “When I stepped onto Broadway and then later into the Opry House and could listen to live music for the first time in months, my heart was so happy! I felt as if the world was turning again and everything was going to be ok!”

Dierks Bentley and Hot Country Knights 'Crush It' During Las Vegas Valentines Weekend

In a two-night residency at The Chelsea Theater at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Dierks Bentley and his 90's Country band, Hot Country Knights crushed Valentines Day Weekend in back to back "HOT" performances, February 14 and 15, 2020.

While HCK was the opening act, they didn't just break even, they came out ahead! Caylee Hammack had to follow their 'wild and a little crazy, too' performance each night, and she held her own in a sparkly white ice skating outfit that Dierks noted on night two was perfect for the Burning Man On Ice tour, when he brought her out to sing 'Different For Girls' with him.  Before that, she killed it on harmonica in her own set that also included a Lizzo cover.

It's always a safe bet you'll find DB Congress in full force at any Dierks show.  Vegas was a draw for nearly two dozen reps, all supporting the Double dose of Dierks and Hot Country Knights with special Tshirts, thanks to LA rep, Cecia Benoit! See our socials for photos!

Here are some of the weekend's highlights:

Night 1 - Hot Country Knight's Viagra commercial  by Doug and Rayro: "We use a lot of Viagra in this band so we gotta do a jingle for Viagra."

I'm a riser
I'm a get the blood flowin' til it's a different sizer
I want to thank the white coat guys that work at Pfizer
Got 4 hours to turn this thing into a gieser
My game's on fire, like Orel Hershiser
I'm a Riser

Night 2- Hot Country Knight's ex-lax commercial by Doug and Rayro: "Tonight's sponsorship is brought to you by Ex-Lax.  We only endorse products that we use, and we use a shitload of this stuff.  We gotta pay the bills."
Am I the only one who wants a #2 tonight? Listen to the rest in this video clip:

Night 2 - Hot Country Knights - Asphalt - From the fly, Dierks gifts Mary Lou with a pair of blublockers:

Night 1 - DBC was feeling the love from Dierks from the get go:

Night 1 - Dierks asked the crowd, "Anybody coming out for both nights?  I know YOU guys are (points to front row)...so hardcore:

Night 1 - After singing Riser, Dierks says, "That's how that song actually goes.  I was sitting side stage and I heard Doug turn my song - an  important song - into a song about erectile dysfunction. Not cool, not cool--this is an important song.  Last week he turned it into a song about Hooters:
I love Hooters, I love 2 for 1 wing Wednesdays with a whiskey shooter
If you're a vegan well you're a loser
And girls at the Vegas location are cuter
And whatever you're watching on your computer...
It's unbelievable, this guy [Doug] is destroying my songs!"

Night 2 -  Dierks's introduces Living
"I'm sorry about that I've been drinking a lot and I got the shakes (his hands violently shaking in a motion to the crowd to keep cheering.)  Damn, you guys!  I mean, last night was good but let's be honest, I means boys (talking to the band)...this!? Gotta love a number two.  Thank you so much for kickin' ass tonight.  I'm feeling so good tonight.  I love...how many people here from Vegas tonight? (Loud cheers).  I love Vegas so much.  One of my favorite things about it...the strip is good--it's ok. But if you drive like 40 minutes that way out to Red Rocks Canyon, that's really cool.  That's the shit out there.  And the way you have the best time of your life when you come here is you do a little bit of that out there, you go climb Turtle Head Trail...which I did today in a pair of Vans and no water.  You do that shit and then you come here, you get the best of both worlds.  That's how you do the best "Living." And that's what this song is about, making the most of every moment.  I've packed a lot into these 48 hours and it's one of my favorite places to play."

Night 2 - Every Mile A Memory - Now with his massive catalog, odds are not great that Dierks will include EMAM in the set, but on night two we got lucky--and felt very loved!
"How many people first time tonight? I know this whole front row section was here last night. How many shows you all been to down here?"  He held the mic up to each hard core fan on the front row...lost count, 51, 68, 35, 98..."98 shows down here folks...you guys gotta get your shit together back there (pointing to the back of the theater)...48, 10, "10? Man, come on you can do better than that," come to the PNW and we will, "I know, I need to..." 57, 40, 23, 2 , 1 - "first one!" Our hard core fans, lotta friends down here..."

Night 2 - Sideways 'hand slaps' - Gotta make 'em wanna come back for more ...
