Minnesota DB Congress rep, Renee (DB_KU_WWEGirl) is the winner of the FREE DB Congress T-Shirt! Here's how she promotes Dierks Bentley on a daily basis...
I Twitter, so on Follow Fridays I make sure to promote @DierksBentley and I also RT(Retweet) his tweets. I make sure to call the radio station one time per DJ shift to request his newest single to try and get it to #1. I also make sure to do my voting on CMT.com, GACTV.com, and any online polls that I come across. I Facebook and I post about Dierks along with following him and making comments. I am a member of DBCongress.com, Dierks.com, Dierksfans.com and I make sure to wear my Dierks shirts when I'm out and about. I have a Dierks window cling on my car. I also have pictures from the DB M&G's at my desk at work.
When Dierks sent my son a get well soon package when he had open heart surgery, I made sure to pledge my loyalty to him at that moment, and I've never backed down. I made the trek to Denver, CO for the DVD taping, and Carrie the button lady gave me wonderful buttons that I have displayed in my car. I also have the DB Congress dog tags hanging in my car. I got pulled over once, and the officer asked me about it, and I explained and promoted the Dierks Greatest Hits album!
I had another baby back in 2007, and we are in the assessment phase of finding out if he is autistic and so he's a bit of a handful so I don't get to roadtrip as often as I'd like, but I make sure to get out to as many local shows as possible.
Thank you to all the DB Congress reps who entered the contest! You all are making a huge difference in making Dierks #1! Keep coming back here to dbcongress.com! We plan to give away more FREE T-Shirts for top DB promoters periodically!
Justin Bockbrader is one of two grand prize winners from Dierks Bentley's "Map of Home" contest, and he spent the day on the road with Dierks and crew in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan yesterday, collecting on his grand prize package!
The Map of Home contest was created to promote Dierks' new single, “Home.” DB Congress members were encourged to "pin" their "home" on a giant map of the world, and tell their story of what home means to them, with words, pictures and videos.
Justin lives just outside of Bowling Green, Ohio in the country side of a very small historical town. Dierks' Mt Pleasant, Michigan show on January 21 was the closest tour date near Pemberville.
"I just started this past summer to be a fan club member (now listed on the dbcongress.com rep page under Ohio!). I never knew it existed. But I came to know of Dierks when I listened to some of his older stuff and loved it because he sings about heart break and at that time I felt like I was in every song because I've went through all of that," Justin told us. "I respect and love how he writes the majority of his own music--now a days that's very rare." Justin's winning entry is below.
I chose this picture because it is a true definition of home. This farm has been in our family for many generations. From the flag that hangs that was given to us at my uncles funeral, to the 1941 John Deere thats plowed many of fields and helped the family survive. My uncle lived on the farm right after WWII was over. He served for his country just like thousands of others did, and once he passed we could not give the farm away, so now we have family reunions and gatherings at the homestead. All 150 people come out year in and year out to see the old tractors and barns that stand tall for over two centuries. We still farm the land because thats what my uncle and our ancestors would want. I always stop out to see the flag drapped over the beams and think to myself I live in the greatest country in the world and nobody could ever take that from me. God Bless. Dierks posted a series of tweets to introduce us to Justin:
"the first winner of our HOME map contest is here at our show in Michigan. about to go meet him. he is hanging out with us all day"
"say hi to justin bockbrader! or @bockbutt10. cool HOME story" (Justin tells us the nickname "bockbutt" was given to him by a buddy in the 6th grade and it has stuck every since...)
"he's a hockey player AND the number 7 is his number like me. liking this dude"
""I'm pretty sweet at #NHL Xbox".... wow, its on."
Justin told us that hockey was another huge influence on why he's a fan of Dierks. "I've played since I was four and it's rare to see any artist lace them up (hockey skates) let alone a country superstar like Dierks."
"1st preshow prayer and huddle with our HOME map contest winner @bockbutt10. thx justin for hanging w us all day."
From Justin's Perspective"
My day with Dierks was one of the coolest experiences ever--the man is so down to earth and the nicest dudes I've ever met. Not only him but also all his band members and stage crew guys. Such good people involved with Dierks. We started out eating lunch and meeting all the members, then we went to the tour bus and played some video games but the NHL game was scratched (he knew I would of owned him).
Next I watched the sound check to all the songs he was doing that night. Later in the day my parents and I got to do the meet and greet and attend the show.
Justin watches Dierks and the guys at sound check
"Finally after the show we got to hang out on the tour bus with guys and tipped a few brews back. Dierks is a big fan of old classic country music like Hank, Johnny, Strait, and Waylon which I love about him. I always felt like he would be a good man to tip a few back and listen to country gold saturday nights with."
Dierks lived up to that sentiment by opening the show with a new song from the upcoming "Home" album, "Tip It On Back." Justin and his dad got to do just that.
"Just an overall hell of a time," adds Justin. And one final Tweet: @Bockbutt10: @DierksBentley Dierks man, really appreciate everything, was a badass time and experience, thanks for everything brother hope to see ya soon
Congratulations, Justin! Thanks for sharing your experience! And welcome to the DB Congress!
DB Congress Michigan rep, Stacy hasn't even had her first Meet and Greet with Dierks Bentley yet. But that doesn't stop her from voting and requesting Dierks music daily! She submitted the three photos below of herself voting on CMT.com, GACTV.com and Yes.com for Up On The Ridge, proving her daily dedication to Dierks! Congrats, Stacy! Your prize pack will be on it's way soon!
Cheryl, DBC rep in Wisconsin, is our Runner Up with some great email exchange with her local Morning Show Co-Host Jenny Clark (AJ), from WYTE-FM Y106.5 after the HODAG Festival:
*From: Cheryl TO: AJ (Jennifer Clark) Isn't Dierks wonderful? I think for letting you touch his hair (lucky lady!!) you could help by getting Up On the Ridge into the Top 20 songs this week. What do you say? If you wouldn't mind, please e-mail me back and I will send you a couple pics I got. CONTEST WINNER: VALENTINE'S CONTEST Posted by morgan on 22 Feb 2010 in Fan Club
And the winner of the 2 tickets to see Dierks at the sold-out CMA Songwriter Series in New York is… DB Congress member Hotomolly20! You ALL submitted amazing and heartwarming stories about Dierks' love songs - It's a shame that we only have one pair of tickets to give away, but we think Molly is a very deserving winner. Read her contest entry below, and let's congratulate her on the big win!
The song that says the most about love to me is "Long Trip Alone." My husband Tom and I are high school sweethearts and had been married since 1995. Around 2002, we decided to start our family. Like most couples, we thought getting pregnant and having a child would be easy...just a matter of time. However, this was not the case for us.
We were not able to conceive a child, which was a devastating thing for us. As the years passed and our disappointment mounted, we turned to each other for support and understanding. We had so much love to give a child and we decided on finding an alternative way to start or family. In 2006, we became certified to adopt...and then we waited. Just as we had waited each month to find out if we were pregnant, now we were waiting to get the phone call about a child available for adoption. Through it all, our song became "Long Trip Alone."
The lyrics parallelled our jouney "over sand and stone" to have a baby. Tom was my strength as he "walked with me a while," and there were many tear-filled nights I would "rest beneath (his) smile." We realized that this journey was indeed a long trip but we were never alone. Not only did we have each other, we also had our faith in God, and His love never waivered. This was especially parallelled in the lines, "And I don't know where I'd be without you here, 'cause I'm not really me without you there."
As we waited to be chosen by a birth mother to adopt, "Long Trip Alone" became our refuge. There were countless days I would listen to this song and find strength in not only the lyrics, but in Dierks' voice. Listening to it not only renewed my commitment to become a Mom, but it also renewed my faith that God would answer our prayers and that Tom would always be by my side on this long trip, and in life.
In December 2006, we were selected to become parents to a baby girl. Taylor Emily Vasey was born January 28, 2007...the most preciuos day of our lives! Taylor is now 3 years old, and of course, she is a HUGE Dierks fan! We took her to her first DB show in October at Penn State. I have attached a photo of her and I (and Dierks waaay in the background!) at the concert.
To this day, whenever we hear "Long Trip Alone," we remember that time in our lives when we were waiting to become parents and how our love for God and each other got us through. Someday, I will share this story with Taylor, because "everbody stumbles some time, and needs a hand to hold." And we will always be grateful to Dierks for sharing this song from his heart.

Dierks will choose the grand prize winner from those ten entries and announce the winner of the "Day on the Road with Dierks" on Thursday (November 3). Good luck and stay tuned!"
Music City Network's, Evan Willhite blogged about building Dierks Bentley's Map of Home with a program called "Drupal."
"When one of our clients, Dierks Bentley, met with us about promoting his new single, “Home”, we were inspired to create something meaningful, something that dutifully captured the heartfelt message in his song - we all have a place to call home. It was Craig Dunn, our VP of client services, who came up with the idea that was to become Dierks Bentley’s Map of Home.
As soon as we met to discuss the idea, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy from a functional standpoint, but I was sold on the concept. The idea was that fans would be able to log in and add their own stories of “home” using text, images and/or videos. The stories would then become pins on a large interactive map where anyone could search through others’ stories by clicking on a pin for more info. I loved the vision but faced the challenge of how to build it...With Drupal's help, some fine-tuning of the functionality and an excellent design from Bryan Kemp, we created Dierks Bentley’s Map of Home."
Pretty ingendious, dudes!
I have been so impressed with so many of the entries. You all are so creative with the video slide shows, but some of the photos and story-telling are just as inspiring! It has always been my dream (as I'm sure has been many of yours) to spend a day on the road with DB! Best of luck to all of you!
One of our very own DB Congress members, Randy Alan (PA), recently won the amateur artist “Sing Your Heart Out for a Soldier” competition by submitting a video of himself singing the song “Lucky Me” by Helene Cronin. As we told you before, getting the chance to talk with our president, Dierks Bentley, about his
music really encouraged Randy to pursue his dream. The University of Pittsburgh senior happily shared his story and photos with us! Enjoy!
Back in the middle of June, I saw that Josh Turner was
hosting a singing contest where you had to record yourself singing the song
“Lucky Me” written by Helene Cronin for a chance to win $10,000, a $300 gift
card, and a trip for two to Nashville to stay at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel,
and also a trip to a Tuesday night Grand Ole Opry show where the winner would be honored
onstage with a giant check presented by Josh Turner and the Opry board members.
So after making the video and uploading it, I found out that I was a top 10 finalist out of 26 potential videos. After a week of voting and judging by a
panel of judges, I was crowned the winner. It was such an amazing achievement
because I put so much work into this contest and it all paid off in the end.
So the trip to Nashville took place August 27 through 29, with the Opry show on the 28th on a Tuesday
night. I decided to take my mother, Mary Shaffer, on the trip because I wanted
her to be there to see me on the Opry stage for the first time in my life.
When we arrived in Nashville I already had our schedule
mostly planned out of what we were going to be doing, since I’ve been to Nashville
numerous times and knew my way around. I should say that the first day we were
there (Monday), the highlight was going to the Fontanel Mansion (Barbara Mandrell’s
house) and having a personal tour of the place that was put together by my
great friends Ron Harman and Steven Whitson.
Steven actually does the tours at
the Fontanel Mansion. We explored the whole house with guitars and
memorabilia from today’s country artists. I even got to wear Kenny Chesney’s
tour jacket that belonged to him, but one of the greatest honors was to be
asked to play in one of the bedrooms, it might have actually been Barbara’s
room. But sitting at the foot of the bed and playing the song I won the contest
with for everyone in our tour was such an amazing honor that I will never
forget.
Earlier in the day we went to lunch at the Opry Backstage Grill,
where I was asked to play a song on the stage there. Usually an artist has to
audition to play there but since I was going to be on the Opry they waived that
requirement for me. All the staff there were so nice. It's a great place to eat and
I recommend it to anyone visiting that part of Nashville.
To cap the night
off, Ron then took us down to the Country Music Hall of Fame (where he works)
and invited us to An Intimate Evening With Eddie Stubbs, who was
interviewing Jimmy Newman that night. The show is broadcast over WSMonline
weekly.
One individual that I was introduced to that night was Grand
Ole Opry member Jan Howard. We sat together as we watched the interview taking
place a few rows down on the stage, but between commercial breaks Jan would
tell me stories of how she sang the background vocals on Johnny Cash songs
(specifically “The Ring of Fire”), how she sang a duet with Bill Anderson that
went to number 1, “For Loving You,” and also that she was the one who sang the
demo tape for the Patsy Cline hit “I Fall to Pieces.”
Ron had showed her
the video of me singing the song for the contest and she loved my voice and
what I did with the song. One of the main pieces of advice she gave me was to
“surround yourself with people you can trust.”
Randy and Jan Howard
After the interview, I was
introduced to Eddie Stubbs and got to chat with him for bit, telling him about
my career and how I am just finishing up college. He said “that degree is an important
thing, you are smart for getting your degree before coming down here.” I also
got chat with Jimmy Newman as well who told me that “you have a great smile.
Keep on smiling every day because a smile is a contagious thing.”
Randy and Eddie Stubbs
Randy, Jimmy Newman, and Mary Shaffer (Randy's mom)
After that my
mother, Ron, Jan, Kelsey Hodges (DB Congress member), and my two cousins
Brittany and Stephannie Cantrell (who came up from Mississippi to see me!),
left and went to lower Broadway for a bit then headed back to the hotel to get
some rest for the show the next day. Monday was an intense day since we
started the day at 4 a.m. Eastern time and ended the day at 1 a.m. Central time.
Tuesday started off by going out to visit Richard’s and
Southern, a family owned Merchandising Company who does all the merchandise for
big name country artists such as Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan and others. They were
the ones who made my t-shirts for my merchandise. Actually when we arrived they
had just got done unloading Kenny’s merchandise from this year’s tour and were
printing Luke Bryan and Justin Moore shirts.
The owners are great friends of
mine and such nice people. So we took a tour of the place and met everyone that
works there. It was really nice to see the behind the scenes of what went
into making my shirts as well as other country music artists. After that visit
we headed back to Opryland to get ready for the show.
When we arrived at the Opry we were instructed to park in
the back where the artists and backstage crew park. As we walked toward the
entrance, we were greeted by an Opry staff member who was going to escort us
into the backstage area and give us a little mini tour while the first act was
going on. We got to check out every dressing room there, which had a different
theme in each one.
I also was able to go out on stage while the stage crew was
finishing setting up, and stand in the famous Opry Circle! As I touched the
hardwood floor in the circle I thought about all the great country artists who
are my heroes who stood in that circle. For an artist like me, that was an awesome
experience that I won’t forget as well.
Backstage we ran into many people and
artists, Johnny Lee, Thomas Rhett, Chris Young, and then I finally met Josh
Turner. We went into one of the dressing rooms with Josh and got to talk for
about 10 minutes. He was even nice enough to give my mom and I some CD’s, hats,
and t-shirts. The one piece of advice Josh gave me was to “surround yourself
with people you can trust and who will represent you in your career.” He also
signed a poster for me saying to “keep on singing!”
Josh Turner, Mary Shaffer, Randy Alan backstage at The Grand Ole Opry
After we chatted we
then took some promotional photos for the Opry together and then he went to get
ready for his set. So my mom and I went to our seats and watched Chris Young
play for a bit, then as Josh was going on I was brought backstage again to go
over what was going to happen for my award presentation.
In the process I had
the privilege of meeting Pete Fisher, Grand Ole Opry VP and General Manager,
who said, “We’ll be keeping an eye out for you in the near future,” and Bill
Cody, who was announcing that night.
Once Josh was done with his third song, Bill then introduced me to the Opry crowd and I stood in the spotlight
with Josh and Bill holding my check. Josh even held up my hand while the crowd
was clapping. It was such an amazing feeling to be there on that stage with my
family and friends watching. All I can say is I will never forget my first trip
to Opry ever. What an experience and blessing from God it was. I met so many
great people who believe in what I am doing.
Just before leaving on Wednesday, I was able to have lunch at the Opry Backstage Grill with Opry member Jeannie Seely who is from my hometown area of Northwest PA. Jeannie is known for her 1966 Grammy award-winning Country hit, "Don't Touch Me" along with many other numerous country hits. Getting the chance to sit down and talk with her was so refreshing. She is an amazing individual with a great perspective on life. To hear her stories of what she’s done and been through just blows me away. I was blessed to have a quote from Jeannie in a recent article about me where she said the following,
“His presence as a person renews all your faith in young people. He embraces the history of country music, and he can add to its future.”
As we were leaving, someone recognized Jeannie, but then also recognized me from the Opry show. They even saw me on TV when I was on The Singing Bee on CMT. We took some pictures with them and chatted for a bit, but I just thought that was really funny they recognized me and my name.
As I finish college up this year I’m excited about the
next chapter of my life. My plans are to get a job in Nashville and make the
move down there in the summer. I’ve met some remarkable people that have
changed my life forever and made some lifelong friends who will be there for me
as I make the transition to Music City.
When people ask me why I decided to
pursue music, I just tell them what music did to me. Country music spoke to me
throughout my life; when times were good and when they were tough.
I believe
country music speaks from the heart and really is about things that everyone
goes through in life. For me it was people like Dierks, Kenny, George, Tim, and
countless others who changed my life through music. My goal is to change the
lives of people with my music the way that all those artists changed mine.
Here's the video of Josh Turner presenting Randy with his check:
In celebration of RISER's release in February, Dierks Bentley created an interactive game based around the thunderbird image that represents the project.
“There are so many addicting games about birds right now, and we thought it would be funny to create our own RISER BIRD game,” laughed Bentley. “I’m all about finding interesting ways to get music out to the fans, and this is just supposed to be fun.”
While trying to conquer each level, gamers previewed the new music throughout the bird’s journey, shared high scores and entered to win the grand prize trip to attend a RISER TOUR rehearsal. DB Congress California rep, Cameron Slatterbeck, was the randomly chosen winner of the Dierks Bentely RiserBird Challenge grand prize--a special Riser Tour Rehearsal experience in Nashville, Tennessee! Read his story below.
"I played the Riser Bird game for a few days and made sure to share it on Facebook and Twitter in order to be automatically entered into the contest. I was on the leaderboard on Dierks.com for a couple days before other people passed me up. I obviously didn't think much of my chances to win because after all, you never think something like this could actually happen to YOU. About a week later, I was at the NASCAR race at California Speedway, an annual tradition my friends and I have. Toward the end of the race I noticed I received a Twitter message from DIERKS BENTLEY! It read,
"Hey Cameron! You have won the RISERBIRD Challenge! Before we announce can you confirm you can come to Nashville at the end of April?"
I was ECSTATIC...but still not completely sold. I was put in contact with Kevin Grace at The Green Room PR thanks to you guys at DB Congress. After much back and forth due to available dates and working around Dierks' schedule, I was all set to go to Nashville! I was comped round trip airfare and two nights hotel, as well as the opportunity to experience a private rehearsal for Dierks' Riser Tour! I opted to stay an extra night in Nashville on my own dime so I could experience as much of the city as I could. Kevin picked me up from the airport on Sunday, May 4th and drove me to the hotel, pointing out many of the landmarks and fun places to go on the way. Luckily I have a close friend, Megan, who went to Belmont and still lives in the Nashville area. So for the majority of the trip, she was able to show me all around the town. We went to the Parthenon, toured the famed Ryman Auditorium, and went to many of the famous honkytonks and bars downtown on Broadway and in Mid Town. Tuesday was my last full day in Nashville. Kevin picked me up from the hotel and we drove out to a huge warehouse in East Nashville that Dierks apparently rented out for rehearsals. I was quickly introduced to Dierks and his manager, both of whom could not have been nicer. The only people present were the band, the crew, some of his representation and then some country music TV and radio folks. The stage was built as an exact replica as it was going to be on tour. It was incredible! He played his entire set as if he were playing in front of a sea of 20,000 people. One of the best moments was when he played "Drunk On A Plane" toward the end of his set, and the brand new video was playing on the massive "WAVE" screen behind him. Afterward Kevin told me I was the FIRST member of the general public to have viewed the "Drunk On A Plane" music video. That was pretty awesome!
Afterward, I was able to talk to Dierks for a few minutes. We just shot the s#&* about what shows I've been to of his, and how we both could not wait for his latest RISER TOUR, which I told him I would see him a few different times when he makes it out to the west coast in July. Dierks was everything I expected and more. I have only met a handful of celebrities in my life, but I could not imagine there being someone more down to earth than Dierks is. I thanked him for the opportunity of a lifetime and I went on my way. My friend Megan dropped me off at the airport the next day, and I could not have been more bummed to leave. The city, the people, the places...it was all an amazing experience and I cannot wait to go back as soon as I can. Heck, I just might move there!"
