DB DVR Alert - GACTV's "The Music Inside - Waylon Jennings: Breaking the Myth"

I remember waiting for Dierks Bentley on a cold Thursday night in March 2009 by his bus after he performed at Wild Bill's in Atlanta, Georgia. When he finally appeared, he was gracious as always and signed autographs and took pictures with about 20 fans. What I remembered most is that he told us he had to get on the bus and get back to Nashville because the next day he was going to see Jessi Colter. The excitment in his eyes and voice and smile on his face, was undeniable.

Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings widow, is the woman behind 'The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings, Vol. 1' which was released February 8, 2011. Volume 2 is scheduled for a June 14 release, the day before what would have been Waylon's 74th birthday. Volume 3 is slated to be unveiled in fall 2011, the day prior to Waylon and Jessi's 42nd wedding anniversary.

While Dierks is not included in Volume 1, he is slated for a slot in an  upcoming Volume in the series.

GACTV is airing a special, "The Music Inside - Waylon Jennings: Breaking the Myth," several times this weekend starting tonight at 9 pm.  The show follows the making of a tribute album to one of the greatest country music icons of our time. Artists as varied as Kris Kristofferson, Alabama, Jamey Johnson, Dierks Bentley, Randy Houser, Pat Green, and Jennings' widow Jessi Colter perform and pay tribute to Waylon's most celebrated songs. Alabama lead singer Randy Owens says "What an opportunity for us to go back in the studio, play and record live like we used to, and pay tribute to a TRUE legend in music...not in country music...in music period."

DIERKS PAYS TRIBUTE TO WAYLON

Ever heard Dierks Bentley sing a Waylon Jennings song live in concert? I have, and I can tell you D's voice fits perfectly into the Waylon groove. So much so that he's recorded a song for a tribute album. He usually covers Ain't Livin' Long Like This, but decided on Lonesome, Or'nry and Mean for the tribute song.

A few good ole boys and girls are coming together to record a tribute album to the late
Waylon Jennings. Jessi Colter, Waylon's widow, says she's already heard some of the tracks and promises, "It's going to be an incredible album. It's a very organic, heartfelt tribute, unlike any other tribute album."Among the artists who've contributed is Dierks Bentley.

Jessi raves about Dierks' take on 'Lonesome, Or'nry and Mean,' saying, "He did a real gravely voice version that is to die for. I called him and said 'Dierks, you just really broke my heart singing this song.'"

Jessi and Dierks, who are both from Arizona, have also struck up a friendship. She recently participated in Dierks' Miles for Kids motorcycle ride in Phoenix.

Thanks to Jill (Dearpie), an inaugural member of the Arizona DB Congress who was right up front for the November 21, 2009 Miles and Music For Kids concert. She got some great shots of Dierks Bentley and specials guests like Jessi Colter, Jimmy Wayne, Stoney Larue, and Roger Kline and the Peacemakers.

Whoa! Where did his right hand go? It's magic!
