Dierks Bentley Gears Up for Grammy Awards and Concert at The Troubadour

Dierks Bentley has three Grammy nominations at this Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles including two mentions in the Best Country Collaboration with Vocal category: "Bad Angel" with Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert and "Pride (In the Name of Love)" with Del McCoury and The Punch Brothers. "I'm gonna split the votes and have no chance of winning," Dierks jokes. "No, it's really cool. You know, I voted and to go down and see your name twice and to kind of have to choose between one of your two collaborations is really cool."

Dierks is also playing a pre-Grammy show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on Saturday night, February 12th, with a few special guests. Members of Lady Antebellum are expected to be on hand, and Dierks is reaching out to artists beyond country music as well. He says, "Just trying to get some different people out from different genres and see what happens and give my fans out there a unique kind of show that will never happen again. So, we're working on collaborations and making it a lot of fun."

DIERKS BENTLEY STANDS OUT AS GENUINE, ORIGINAL

George Carter officially made me coo "awwwwww" out loud just now! He wrote an article outlining his thoughts about each song in the American Country Countdown top 40 (last week), 'spieling' on and on about how country music is not like the old days--until he got to Dierks Bentley:

# 35 (this week #29): Dierks Bentley – “I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes” Yes! I love Dierks Bentley! This might come as a surprise if you read my opening spiel about today’s artists, but this guy is awesome. I think he stands out among today’s crowd because he has a sexy voice and his songs seem genuine instead of contrived. By the way, it is not weird for me to compliment a man’s voice by calling it sexy. My favorite singer of all time is Conway Twitty, who had the sexiest voice in country music history. Gary Allan has a sexy voice. So does Barry White. I like all of these people. It’s ok.

Of all modern country artists who came onto the scene long after I quit listening closely, Dierks Bentley might just be my favorite. I just love his voice. And his songs. He’s not one of these fake pansy wannabe country stars. He’s original and awesome. Thank you, Dierks. What a funny name.

I haven’t heard this particular song, but judging by the title, it’s probably intense. By the way, I had to go to the dictionary to figure out how to spell “spiel.” I actually had to consult Google because webster.com’s suggestions for anything close to “shpeel” just wasn’t getting me there.

Dierks Bentley has just released the second single from his album, 'Feel That Fire'. "Sideways" is a good indication of what Bentley went through to release the album, as it almost didn't make it onto the record in the first place.

The president of Capitol Records, to which Bentley is signed, told the country singer prior to its release that the album was a little on the heavy side. As a result, Bentley returned to the studio, and "Sideways" became one of a pair of new tracks added to the effort.

"It definitely tilted the record on the side of having a little more energy and fun than my past records, but it felt right," Dierks told the Associated Press. "My goal is that on the first listen you come away thinking it's fun and rowdy, but when you go back for subsequent listens you find [more depth]."

Bentley's last album, 'Long Trip Alone', was a darker album than those that came before it. And while it did garner four Grammy nominations last year, it didn't sell as many copies as some of his earlier records.

Thus, Bentley (along with the president of Capitol) decided that 'Feel That Fire' should be more upbeat and fun.

"I respect him for saying something because that's hard to do," Dierks said. "I know I can get stuck and not see the forest for the trees."
