Halloween with the Bentley's

 

Most kids look forward to Halloween because of all the free candy.  Dierks looked forward to it because of.... explosives? In an article on GACTV.com, DB discusses his past Halloween tradition of blowing things up and what he plans to do this year:

For Dierks Bentley, Halloween was another holiday he could use as an excuse to get his hands on explosives.  

"When I was a kid, I was all into fireworks," Dierks said.  "Growing up in Arizona, we couldn't get 'em so we'd have 'em shipped in illegally.  I still remember the name of the guy we'd call.  His name was Joe, and he's bring in, ship 'em in a package with no writing on 'em.  We were all about M-80s in the mailboxes and bottle rocket wars.  To me, as a kid, Halloween was fireworks, was blowing up stuff around home."

Halloween is a little tamer for Dierks these days.  As the father of two young girls, Dierks is letting his older daughter, Evie, call the Halloween shots, including what Mom and Dad are going to dress up as.

"Evie's got her Halloween costume picked out," he said.  "She's decided what everyone's gonna be this year in our family.  So, she's gonna be The Little Mermaid, and her younger sister's gonna be a crab.  I think his name is Sebastian.  I don't know The Little Mermaid that well, but she's decided Jordan's gonna be the crab.  And she wants me to be Swiper, who's a character from a TV show called Dora, The Explorer.  I think she has Cassie going as Dora."

It sounds like Halloween will be a family affair... even Jake and George were getting in on the costume action!  Here's some pictures that Dierks tweeted earlier this week:

We can only hope that we get a pic of Dierks as Swiper...  I think we'd all laugh. A lot. haha!

Family Life With Baby Bentley

Still no photos of new baby girl Jordan Catherine Bentley, but daddy Dierks shared with Kix Brooks on ACC Top 40 how he and his family are adjusting to life since the arrival of their second daughter on Christmas day:

"Going from zero to one is a lot more difficult that going from one to two," says Dierks. "She just kind of fits right in there, and you just dust off a few of the old baskets and swings and stuff and set 'em back up again and just do it."

Jordan has a big sister named Evie, but she hasn't met her brothers yet. Of course, we're talking about Dierks' dogs Jake and George, who have been at a friends' house for the last three weeks. Dierks says, "We're kind of waiting to bring them back into the fold. They're more maintenance than the kid is. They're like big, barking all the time, going crazy." Dierks plans to let his pups smell a few of Jordan's blankets before he introduces her to them.

Not only did Dierks get to perform "Sideways" on The Bonnie Hunt Show, but he also got some major "couch" time--7 minutes and 12 seconds, and talked about everything from Australia, to how he got started in the music business and how his career came full circle to the Opry, to Evie, Jake and George.

BH: You look like you could be from there (Australia)
DB: They're big on music, surfing and pubs...those are things I could get into!

DB: I ended up becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry...which is still one of my greatest accomplishments...I really love the Opry and everything it stands for.
BH: Aww that's really nice. (What? Nice? Where's the applause people!)

DB: Jake thinks he's like the third member of the marriage.
BH: I just love the way you read his mind!

EVIE ENJOYS SWADDLING FROM THE MASTER--DADDY DIERKS

I know the March 2009 issue of People magazine (Country Special) has been out for a while now, but it's hard to find on store shelves! So now that I finally have it, I wanted to share with the DB Congress! Doesn't she look like a little doll-baby! Dierks is right--she IS perfect! She is so beautiful in her baby blue jumper--just like her beautiful mom and handsome dad! "His most memorable day recently? It was Nov. 11, the first time that Evie smiled at him." (Toledoblade.com)

"Sure Dierks Bentley is thrilled about his new album, Feel That Fire, and his tour with pal Brad Paisely, but what really gets his blood pumping? Swaddling! "He's a very competitive swaddler," laughs wife Cassidy. "There's a science to it--firm but not too tight," he says. "I'm a master!" The lucky beneficiary of this talent is, of course, 4-month old Evalyn Day, the couple's first child. But before Evie (as she's known) made her entrance on Oct. 4, Bentley admits, "I practiced on [my dog] Jake!" All that swaddling probably helped Jake, as well as the family's other pup George, welcome their new sibling. "Some nights when we're in bed and Cass is asleep and Evie's right there and the dogs are around us, it's like a big tribe--our tribe," he says. "It's the coolest thing. It's like, 'This is mine?'"
