DB Congress Feature Rep of the Month: Rita Eaton, Ireland

She's never seen Dierks Bentley perform live, yet Rita "Reet" Eaton proudly promotes our president daily from across the pond.

Our newest DB Congress rep from Ireland tells us about the unique way she came to know and love Dierks Bentley, his band and his music.

"Earlier this year, a Saturday morning, I was scrolling through my Tweets when I noticed one from Whispering Bob Harris raving about some Country Singer named Dierks Bentley. Who? Never heard of him. So, being a music lover, I immediately went on YouTube and checked him out.

The first song I played was "I Hold On".....liked it. The next? "Bourbon in Kentucky." REALLY liked it and kept going. "Am I The Only One," "Up On The Ridge," "Come A Little Closer."  It's not very often music appeals to me straight away, it usually takes a few listens before I really get into it.

I tweeted Whispering Bob Harris back saying "Why in the hell have I not heard of @DierksBentley before?" I was hooked, immediately got onto Amazon and ordered "Riser" and I haven't stopped playing it since. It is on constantly in my car going to and from work. It sets the mood for the day and gets rid of the stresses on the way home. I bop around to it in my kitchen whilst cooking, and you will quite often see me, a 53 year old girl, playing air guitar along with Brian Layson (I love his playing).

Since then I have purchased all of Dierks CD's that are available and have played little else since. "Riser" and "Up On The Ridge" probably being the most played.

Music has always been a major part of my life. I have been lucky enough to see some great bands and artists over the years ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Michael Jackson, Mary Chapin Carpenter to Robert Plant, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, the list goes on. I even sang in a band a good few years back (albeit for fun more than anything).

I'm a lyrics person, it's always the lyrics of a song that appeal to me first, and I think that's why I love Dierks. His songs are a mix of fun, loving, meaningful, and some really make you think. "Here on Earth" is one particularly close to my heart. Of course it helps that he's not too hard on the eyes either.

I follow the band on Twitter and Facebook (if they don't come to Ireland or the UK it's probably the closest I'll get to them!). I like that they are fun - Cassady's [Feasby, bass] humour in particular appeals to me.  As we say here in Ireland "he's a gas man." That doesn't mean you suffer with flatulence by the way Cassady, it means you're funny....in a good way.

So, I've been introducing Dierks to my friends. Earlier this year I was travelling back to Ireland from my annual trip home (the UK) waiting to board my car onto the ferry.  It was a sunny day, the window was down and Riser CD was playing.  Next thing I know half a dozen people are stood around the car having a listen. That's when you know you're onto something good.

Anyway, after all is said and done, I love Dierks Bentley's music.  It cheers me up, it makes me feel good, and to me that is what music is about. So keep doing what you're doing Dierks, only please come to Ireland soon."

Thanks for sharing your story, Reet!  We hope Irelend lands on Dierks' tour schedule soon for you!

Dierks Bentley Makes Room For Two More at Indiana University of Penn.

Not many artists reply to tweets, much less give away tickets to shows via Twitter.  That's what separates Dierks Bentley from the pack.  Read how he made one fan's day quite possibly one of the best days of her life.

About two hours away from the Dierks Bentley's May 5th show at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Cassidy Norris was working in Pittsburgh and tweeting her friend about how sad she was that the
Dierks show was sold out.

"All of a sudden I saw my phone's screen flash, 'mentioned by Dierks Bentley.' I am pretty sure my heart skipped a beat or two.  He tweeted me saying, 'there's always room for one more! leaving 2 tix under your name.'

I was at work, and I was shaking so badly from excitement my boss let me leave early and I was on my way to the Dierks Bentley concert!  My friend Jasmine Sable and I had a two hour journey, but we managed to make it in less than an hour and a half.  The entire time we were paranoid that this was a big joke.  But when my friend tweeted to me and Dierks thanking him for the tickets and he said, 'enjoy,' we knew it wasn't!"

Jasmine and Cassidy
Cassidy told us she has loved Dierks ever since she heard, "What Was I Thinking," when it first came out, and started discovering all of his music.  "Sideways" was her favorite song for the longest time as soon as it came out, and had her searching for all of his music.

"When we got to IUP we had no clue where to go,  but found Will Call and our tickets.  Our seats were AMAZING - 5th row!

The concert was quite possibly the best concert I have ever been to!  I will never forget the day of May 5, 2012 and the most amazing concert ever.  My favorite moment was probably getting the tweet back from him or the fact that he was singing our way and I basically made eye contact!  It was one of the best days of my life!"

This was her first Dierks concert, but we're betting it won't be her last! She's interested in joining the fan club, too!  DB Congress would be happy to have you, Cassidy!

Thanks for sharing your story!

Dierks Bentley's Treat to a San Antonio Fan's Tweet

"It all started with a simple tweet and out of it came an unforgettable experience!

Every year the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is held at the AT&T Center and each night there is a free concert following the rodeo. This year Dierks Bentley was scheduled to perform on Saturday, February 25th which happened to be Finals night.  We knew tickets were going to sell out fast but didn’t realize how quickly it would happen.  By the time we decided to attend it was sold out. Imagine my disappointment; Dierks would finally be in my area and I didn’t get tickets in time!

I took a moment to update my twitter that night (Feb. 17th) posting:
 “that moment when you order tickets and the screen says SOLD OUT. Saddest day ever. @DierksBentley at the Rodeo. Hopefully I can win some.”

I never expected the reply that followed would actually happen. To my surprise a few moments later I received a text on my phone “@DierksBentley mentioned you on twitter.”

WHAT?! I just stared at the screen and thought to myself I have to be dreaming. Hands shaking I rushed to open Twitter, it seemed like the application was taking forever to load, and as my feed updated I saw for myself the Tweet of the Year:
"@EireneCook: that moment when you order tickets and the screen says SOLD OUT. Saddest day ever.” – just txted my tour mgmr. 2 tix @ will call!”

Did that actually just happen?! Now, keep in mind, this happened in the middle of the night. I couldn’t believe it so woke up my husband to make sure it was real; he looked at it and was just as surprised as me. How was I going to get back to sleep now?

I always knew Dierks was a gracious artist and this solidified my opinion even more. Who knew that of all the tweets he received that night he saw and responded with such an amazing gesture to mine?

The night of his concert was finally here and after receiving a confirmation tweet from Dierks and his tour manager letting me know the tickets were at will call Alex and I headed down to the venue. The box office staff handed me an envelope that read “Eirene – Dierks Bentley Guest.”

After enjoying the Rodeo portion of the evening it was time for his performance! What’s neat about the concert is the stage rotates so no matter where you are in the arena you have the perfect seat. As I expected, his performance was incredible. He performed songs from “Home” and many of my favorites from the older albums. I can’t pinpoint my favorite moment from his concert because the entire evening was too good to be true. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to thank him in person for the tickets but made sure to send him a tweet thanking him for the tickets. If I ever get a chance to meet him I’ll make sure to thank him for the amazing evening!
DB Congress Rep, Eirene with husband Alex

As every Dierks fan knows, his concerts are always a great time. This time the concert was extra special and will always hold a place in my heart, not only was it my husband’s first Dierks concert but we were there because Dierks took the time to notice my tweet and provide us with a night we will never forget. I will be forever grateful to him."

CMA Awards Wrap-Up

The 44th annual Country Music Association awards have come and gone. The day started off on a good note with a bright and early performance on Good Morning America. Dierks played 3 songs, including the current single, 'Draw Me a Map.'

In case you missed it on tv this morning, click here to see the rest of Dierks' GMA performance.

Once it was time for the actual awards show, Dierks walked the black carpet in style. He cleans up nice, huh? He mentioned on CMT's coverage of the black carpet that he was more than ready to put his jeans and plaid shirt back on though.

Once inside for the awards, sadly Dierks' name was never called to receive an award, but I don't think I'm alone in saying it was nice to hear his name on several lists of nominees again!

The night ended with a great performance of the title track from 'Up On the Ridge.' Complete with a group vocal intro, and plenty of fog, Dierks and his band turned out what I believe was one of the best performances of the night, all bias aside. It was refreshing to hear a fiddle at a country music awards show.

And even though he didn't win any awards, after the show Dierks was a trending topic on Twitter!

You'll get them next year, Dierks!

Did Dierks Answer Your Question?

CMT, aka @FollowCMT on Twitter, asked followers to 'tweet' questions to ask Dierks Bentley. They posted his answers on his Artist of the Month page on CMT.com! Did Dierks answer one of your questions? Check it out below!

@areyes03: Any new songs you're writing? I've been trying not to ... trying to just focus on and enjoy Up on the Ridge. But, I've had some ideas floating around up there for a while and I'm starting to think about getting back into it.

@countrytunes: Would you please consider adding "Prodigal Son's Prayer" to your set list? I certainly will. After debating it for a few years, we've decided to add a fiddle player to the band. Having him will really help out with playing songs off Up on the Ridge live, as well as grassy tunes like "Prodigal Son's Prayer" from previous albums.

@rich94car: When did you realize you wanted to sing? I've always loved music ... had posters of singers all over my walls growing up. (Billy Idol, Madonna ... a lot of stuff my sister and older friends turned me on to.) But at 17 I heard Hank Williams Jr. for the first time and I knew without a single doubt that I wanted to be a country singer.

@RebaHardin: If you could duet with any other country artist who would it be? Guy? Girl? Singing a duet with George Strait would be about as good as it gets. I just did something with Rodney Crowell that will be coming out sometime soon, and that was a real highlight for me. Singing "Bad Angel" with Miranda Lambert and Jamey Johnson is the coolest collaboration I've ever done on one of my records.

@tswiftfan11: Were you worried when you released Up on the Ridge that no one would take to it because of the different sound? I think when people hear the album, in particular the single, they get that it's not just a "bluegrass" record. My hope is that first song erases any pre-conceived ideas that anyone might have had about the record or bluegrass music in general. Then, if they want they can dig a little deeper into some more traditional stuff like "You're Dead to Me" or "Rovin' Gambler."

@flybaby014563: Why was it so important to have Miranda and Jamey in the song "Bad Angel"? "Bad Angel" was written by Suzi Ragsdale and Verlon Thompson. They did a live version of it with Guy Clark and Darrell Scott. When I thought about who would be my current day Guy Clark and Darrell Scott, I immediately thought of Miranda and Jamey ... two singer-songwriters I truly respect and enjoy hanging out with.

@KarenDeaney: How did it feel to play "Wanted" with Bon Jovi at HullabaLOU? Incredible/amazing/surreal. My first concert I snuck out to was Bon Jovi with Skid Row as the opener. I was 13 years old and had just discovered the electric guitar, power chords and distortion pedals. I told Jon that the only thing I remembered about that concert was the girl standing next to me in a short leather dress ... he loved it!!!

@laurastinsonn: What's your favorite song to play at one of your concerts? I've written or co-written most of them, so they all have some particular thing that makes enjoy digging into them and singing them night after night. But, I will say "Settle for a Slowdown" and "Long Trip Alone" are two I really enjoy singing. I also love playing the stuff off of Up on the Ridge because I get to jam with my band and nothing is more fun than that.

"AAALLLMMMOST" TOP 20: UOTR TO #21

@dbcongress UP ON THE RIDGE aaaalllllmmmmost top 20! banjos across america thank you...they are hoping this leads to more work

You might remember seeing that tweet on July 9th if you follow our Prez, Dierks Bentley, on Twitter. And, this week, "Up on the Ridge" inched ever-closer to that coveted Top 20. On Billboard, it's oh-so-close at #21, enjoying modest but healthy growth of nearly 1 million in audience. On Mediabase, it's #23, but will likely move to at least #21 this week due to songs moving to recurrent status.

It's hard to say if it'll hit Top 20 before Sunday on either chart. The new Darius Rucker song is flying up the charts behind it, already up to #26 in its 3rd week. It's possible that it will pass UOTR and sort of stall any movement for at least the next week. I don't think it's unreasonable to think UOTR will move into the Top 20 for the July 26th chart run, though.

It's worth noting that it's still holding steady with songs that charted at the same time. In their 13th week, "Roll With It" by Easton Corbin and "Hard Hat and a Hammer" by Alan Jackson are at #18 and #19 respectively, and UOTR is just behind Gary Allan's "Get Off on the Pain," in it's 16th week. So, its growth is extremely comparable to most of the songs released at the same time. It continues to improve on the Callout America chart, as well, which is still encouraging as more and more people start to get on board with the song!

Keep up the great work, "Congrass!"

TRAIN'S A COMIN', IT'LL BE HERE 'FORE TOO LONG

Have you ever done anything crazy to meet Dierks Bentley? For one DB Congress rep, what might be considered crazy to some people, was just 'trying her luck' to Michelle from Maryland.

It was October 22, 2009, and Dierks had posted a message on Twitter that he was getting ready to board a train from New York to Baltimore for the show that night. So Michele begged one of her friends at work to go to the train station with her so she could get a picture taken with him.
"this is...fun? yes steve, it is,...taking a train from nyc to baltimore." 12:41 PM Oct 22nd, 2009 via TwitPic
"Let me start by saying, I am not a stalker! I follow Dierks on Twitter and he said he was taking a train from New York to Baltimore. I checked to see when the train got in and went to the train station."

She knows that may sound crazy but it was only a few blocks from the train station in Baltimore where she works so she thought she'd try her luck.

"I finally got a girl from work to go with me since no one I work with likes country music. We were at the station for about 10 minutes and my friend said, "Oh my God there he is." When I turned around, I almost died. It was like a movie scene in slow motion (in my head) [every song another scene, from some old movie goin' back in time to you and me...]." Her friend asked, "What do we do?"

Michele, not about to waste this opportunity, grabbed her arm and walked over to Dierks. "I figured this may be my only chance to ever meet him. We got pictures with him and he was so nice to us. I was so nervous! He was with Steve Misamore, the drummer, and they were taking pictures of each other on their phones. He asked us if we were taken care of for that night's show. I'm not sure why we said yes. I was so excited I didn't even think to tell him we didn't have tickets for the show! I'm never lucky enough to get M&G passes, so I had to take matters into my own hands! I'm so glad we went and I'd do it again if I had the chance!"

Michele is hoping to win a M&G through the fan club for the May 19 Baltimore show! Well, Michele, seems like your luck is changing! But we're crossing our fingers for you just in case!

IN THE STUDIO WITH BENTLEY AND KRAUSS

Dierks Bentley tweeted this pic and caption yesterday from his Twitter page: http://twitpic.com/14z447 - "alison krauss in the studio today...killer #fb"

I hope that means Alison will be one of his duet partners on the upcoming bluegrass album! One of my favorite duets is Dierks and Alison singing "Good Things Happen" on the "Modern Day Drifter" CD from 2005. Their voices harmonizing together sound so sweet!

DIERKS GRANTS CHRISTMAS WISH

For months, I have been weaving in a "tweet" now and then (between the "VOTE" tweets) to our president, Dierks Bentley, to request that he please "follow" his DB Congress on Twitter, each time to no avail. Although he has replied to us a few times via Twitter, he had never clicked on "follow" officially.

Last week, with all the Christmas songs playing on the radio, I couldn't get that song - "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth..." - out of my head!

So I tried one last attempt on Christmas Eve:

@dbcongress: @DierksBentley All we want for Christmas is our @dbcongress president, @DierksBentley, to "Follow" us!

And I asked all our DBC reps to RT (retweet) my request. Thank goodness Stephanie (DBC rep in California RT'd it!) That's the one he chose to reply to!

@DierksBentley: @DBTHFAN21 christmas wish granted! thanks for a great year. merry christmas to you all. 3:19 PM Dec 25th

Lo and behold, there we are! We are officially on his "following" list of icons in the top left!

My reply...

dbcongress: @dierksbentley THANK YOU! You just made our Christmas so, so special! God Bless! *Ronna
And the next day, I had to check again to make sure I wasn't dreaming, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, our icon is still there!

dbcongress: ...and I know I'm not dreamin'...I just choose to believe it" Yes! @DierksBentley is now "following" his congress! :)

Thank you, Dierks! It means the world to us!

HOW ARE THE BENTLEY'S CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS?

Up until this Christmas Eve morning, Dierks Bentley and his 'tribe' (as he refers to his family) planned a "tender Tennessee Christmas, just like the Amy Grant song," according to The Boot.com. But apparently they had some plumbing problems and Dierks tweeted to get some help on how to fix...er, his language in front of his daughter, Evie!

"@DierksBentley: pipe busted.water leaking thru 2nd floor.daughter is too old for me to cuss in front of anymore.does saying "crap on a stick" count?"

Various helpful replies ensued:

MiddleAgeGodess: @DierksBentley favorite when I was a kid was - Some of a BeechNut Gum

Shyanne41805: @DierksBentley Son of a Biscuit Eater works well too!!! Sorry about your leak!!

dbcongress: Or, "Cheese & Rice!"

GirlsGotMiles: Oh I remember dad's f-bombs when r pipes broke...

dbcongress: @DierksBentley Oh, never mind...forget that Cheese and Rice phrase, after all it IS CHRISTmas!

okiemom1: @DierksBentley Thank goodness for insurance... it recarpeted at my brothers when he busted a pipe! But still a huge mess!! Merry Christmas??

CamilleFuston: So @DierksBentley, what I think we're trying to say is, if you use bad words around Evie, you is gonna be on the naughty list

ASHleyAmezcua: @DierksBentley ..."Shut the Front Door" is a favorite of mine or simply just "s balls"

katiebright
: @DierksBentley Remember The Christmas Story...Raphie's famous "Ohhhh Fudge"....doesn't feel nearly as good but try that.

sup3rmom: @DierksBentley try "fudge on a stick"

dbcongress: @DierksBentley Yes, that counts! You say what you gotta say to keep little ears safe! So what naughty words has Evie repeated from "daddy?"

ronnopwasky03: @DierksBentley haha crap on a stick probably works fine..hope ya get get it fixed n have a wonderful holiday!

Stephanie2286: @DierksBentley I think crap is a safe word. At least it didn't bust tomorrow! A plumber on Christmas may cost you your first born.

neenals
: @DierksBentley I used to say Holy Schnikies until my daughter started drawing out the Holy Sh....

ackerlisalou: @DierksBentley: as long as u dont mind her saying it!

suzsexton: @dierksbentley Good save there dad. I also like to substitute "shite" for the other word. 3 yr old g-son at home.

Sunshine81274: @DierksBentley Oh no!! It only counts if you think she'll start running around saying "crap on a stick" instead of "uh-oh" ;)

Shon82573: @dierksbentley sometimes its a mixed blessing adam is deaf! Sorry about the pipes hope its not 2 bad! Merry Xmas Shonda and adam!

rickybarbie: @DierksBentley crap on a cracker? lol

cutter951: @DierksBentley Float to safety! Cutter & Alisha at Cat Country - Colorado Springs. Wishing you a dry Christmas!

ssigafoos: @DierksBentley they're not too old until they can repeat everything you say ;-) Or just put your hands over her ears! Happy Holidays!

drcamnca: @dierksbentley that works or my favorite for the love of pete

KarissaShields: @DierksBentley that frickin sucks..try saying "Got dranduff and some of it itches!" that tends to help when u cant cuss!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But the one that got Dierks to reply was:
@DierksBentley try *Shut the front door or Son of a Biscuit* Merry Christmas and hope your house is ok!!!! Although, I think he reply tweeted to the wrong Twitterer:
"DierksBentley: @trinitykim "shut the front door" and "son of a biscuit eater"! those are great! going to start using those a hell...er, heck of a lot. "
Here's the original plans, from The Boot:
For Christmas, Dierks Bentley tells the Boot, "it will be the five of us." Huh? Bentley fans are well aware that he and wife Cassidy welcomed their first child, Evalyn Day Bentley (Evie), in October 2008, but are there two more kids in the Bentley household he's kept under wraps?Yes, if you count the four-legged variety. "People say when you have a kid, you forget about your dogs, but our dogs, Jake and Jorge, are still family," Dierks says. "It's going to be a tender Tennessee Christmas, just like the Amy Grant song."After spending much time on the road, Dierks is happy to home alone with just his wife and kids (including the ones with paws). "We're going to be in Nashville. We've got the tree set up in our house. With a kid, it reinvents everything so I'm happy to just be at home."
HE DOES EXIST! PREZ TWEETS HISTORIAN
*EDIT: I found the commercial on YouTube!
You've all seen it, right? The M&Ms commercial where yellow and red say to each other, "He does exist!" and Santa says, "They do exist!" when they get a glimpse of each other in the dim light of a Christmasy living room.
Dierks Bentley had been "Tweetless" for a few days, even though he performed two shows back to back in Vegas Thursday and Friday--a usually productive Tweet time for Dierks.
On the flip side, Stephanie, our DBC Historian and Missouri rep, spent most of her two days in Vegas in line waiting to see Dierks and sending him numerous tweets on Twitter hoping for a response from our DB Congress prez, to no avail. But one of her tweets did finally get his attention:
Stephanie2286: "@DierksBentley Thanks again for such a great time in Vegas! Def made #'s 49 and 50 special!"
And seven hours later...
DierksBentley: "@Stephanie2286 thanks for 50 nights of your life! wow. honored. #fb"
He DOES exist! And he is so appreciative of his fans! This has got to be the best tweet/quote of the day, week, month!
Congrats Steph! And thank you mr. president! You just made her day and all of ours!
