Seven Peaks 2019 Announcement

It's official! The announcement DB Congress members have been waiting for has come!

The Seven Peaks Festival will be back in Colorado this Labor Day weekend!

In case you missed last year's event, here's a great recap from Rolling Stone, with a bonus article from the Taste of Country, labeling Dierks as the "most accessible headliner" ... we would have to agree!

DBCers found a public notice from Chaffee County earlier this year discussing a "public hearing [on Feb. 5] ... for the purpose of considering a Special Event Permit request from Live Nation Country Festival" with the event to be held at Buena Vista over Labor Day weekend. That could only mean one thing, right?

An announcement one way or the other was on the horizon ... we're just so grateful this was the outcome!

Of course, Dierks pulled together one of his favorite bands--the Hot Country Knights--to help announce the news:

Oh, Steve Misamore, you are truly hilarious! Add Dan Hochhalter with his selfie mode and Cassady Feasby with his hairspray, and this is one unforgettable announcement! If this is any indication of what's to come for this festival, we wouldn't miss it! Only 195 days to go ...

While artists, ticket and camping details have not yet been released, last year's tickets went on sale in mid-April. We should know more in the next few weeks.

However, there is one website addition we did notice this year on the contact page! Has anyone else contacted Dierks?

Stay tuned and in the meantime, visit sevenpeaksfestival.com!

Dierks Bentley and the Band Hide In Plain Sight As Opening Act

Have you been to a What The Hell Tour concert recently?
Then you might have missed Dierks Bentley and the band hiding in plain sight.

As many concerts go, there are often lesser-known opening acts, giving the crowd a taste of talent and paving the way for the headliner. Depending on the city in which you attend the WTH Tour, that first band is likely an up-and-coming local bluegrass group. Some examples are the Mansfield Manscapers, the Tampa Tug-A-Lots, or the Bolo Boys Bluegrass Band.

Well ... do any of these guys look familiar?

That's right. The opening act setting the stage for Jon Pardi--the band you might have missed if you were running late or getting your swag--is, in fact, Dierks and his band of brothers: Cassady Feasby, Ben Helson, Dan Hochhalter, Steve Misamore and Tim Sergent. With hats, sunglasses, and clothing that is a departure from their normal style, they comfortably play the part of a bluegrass band making their way.

A couple DB Congress fan club members have shared videos and photos of the--to them--obvious act; and almost all have stated that those around them have been none-the-wiser. Even if someone mentions "That's Dierks Bentley!" you can hear disbelief in the background.

Now that the word is getting out, it's fair to assume this is one concert where people will be in their seats early!

Now that you know, it's difficult to watch and not smile! It'll be our secret.

* A special thank you to Amy Wicks and Ann Martin for the video footage!

Dierks Bentley's Team Dude Score 2015 SRO Awards Nods and a Win

Experiencing a Dierks Bentley performance live and in person is a feeling hard to put into words.  It's more than just our favorite artist and his vocal prowess and connection with the crowd--although that is the main attraction.

It's also about the anticipation--before he even hits the stage.  It's the moment the lights go dark, the music cues and your heart drops.  The huge video screen starts flashing images, then with a bang, the Dierks Bentley curtain drops and 12 guys run across the stage, gathering it all up in 10 seconds flat, while fireworks make you jump with excitement.  Then the guys in the band appear on stage and we cheer for each--Steve Misamore on drums, Brian Layson, lead guitar, Cassady Feasby on bass, Tim Sergent, steel/banjo and Dan Hochhalter, fiddle.  And suddenly, there he is--at the top of the riser--the dude himself.

It takes a well-oiled machine to bring all those elements together in one big spectacular moment that doesn't stop for 90 minutes. It takes Team Dude, Inc.

Two of the team members were recognized this year by the CMA SRO Awards. The Standing Room Only awards are a division of the CMA for those involved in touring.

Fiddle player, Dan Hochhalter (@FiddlinDan on Twitter), was nominated for Touring Musician of the Year. Although we think he should have won, the award went to Jenee Fleenor, who, according to Dan is a "fantastic fiddle player out with Blake Shelton."

James "Pugs" McDermott was nominated and won for Front of House (FOH) Engineer of the Year!

“Our touring industry members are on the frontline, every day taking our music directly to the fans in small clubs, stadiums, and everything in between,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Their hard work and many contributions to the success of the format deserve attention and a standing ovation.”

    Congratulations, Pugs!

Thank you Crystal Hochhalter for posting these Team Dude, Inc, photos!

Team Dude, Inc at the ‪#‎SROAwards‬Dan was up for Touring Musician of the Year! Congrats to Pugs on his win

Dierks Bentley Hosts Tige and Daniel's Second Annual Birthday Bash

Dierks Bentley Hosts Tige and Daniel's Birthday Bash
by  Guest Blogger Adrian Taylor

When it comes to hosting a birthday party, who makes the best host? Dierks Bentley does! On June 23, 2014, Dierks Bentley literally flew himself to Winston Salem, North Carolina to host 104.1 WTQR morning show radio DJs Tige and Daniel’s second annual Birthday Bash.

Now I don’t know what Tige and Daniel did to get Dierks to host their party, but as a diehard Dierks fan, I am so glad that they were able to get him.

The stage was set up with four stools for the acoustic performance. In the front was Brian Layson (lead guitar), Dierks Bentley (guitar/host), Dan Hochhalter (fiddle/banjo) and hiding behind Brian was Cassady Feasby (bass guitar). I must say I was sad when I didn’t see Steve Misamore or Tim Sergent, but Dierks, Cassady, Brian and Dan did an amazing job on stage. And before I go on, it was good to see Jay & Carlos running back and forth from backstage to the stage.

Dierks took the center stool and began by talking to the audience. He first thanked Tige and Daniel for allowing him to perform at their birthday and thanked all of us for attending (granted the majority of the people there won tickets via the radio station). Dierks, being the jokester that he can be, told a few jokes and changed Tige & Daniel’s name so many times I lost count. A few times during  the set, Dierks would be telling stories, and getting the crowd laughing so much, that he had to look to Brian and say, “what key does this song begin in?” And Brian would have to say “dude, how many times have we done this song?”

About half way through the performance, Tige & Daniel’s birthday cake was brought out and Dierks led the crowd in singing “happy birthday” to them. Afterwards, Dierks took a picture with Tige and Daniel and he put his backside to the audience, and said he was going to pull a LukeBryan. With us being in North Carolina, the first thought I had was “no Dierks, don’t fall off the stage!” Instead, Dierks said, he wore the tightest jeans he owned.

Dierks performed a few more songs, then talked about how he was honored to be at the birthday bash this year, and that he didn’t know how Tige and Daniel got the hosts they did, but that since they had Luke Bryan last year, and him this year, it would be hard to top next year, but if they couldn’t find anyone next year, that he would come back. Personally I think that is a great idea!

After performing 10 songs, Dierks finished the night off with Home. He dedicated it to all the service men and women. When Dierks finished Home, he looked at me and tossed me one of his new guitar picks. Afterwards, the radio station thanked Dierks again for coming out, and invited everyone to celebrate with the cake and other food.

As everyone was walking away, I yelled up at Brian, and asked for his set list. He picked it up, and said “here ya go.” I told him thanks, and my friend Jessica and I began to walk away. Several other people there tried to get the other set lists from Dierks, Dan and Cassady, but they had no luck. So I have to say I was happy I got one. Several people then asked me how I knew the band, and before I could say much, my friend Jessica replied, those guys are like her extended family. And I have to agree with her.

So after getting my set list and guitar pick, Jessica and I were on two missions. One of which was to get our own individual photos with Tige and Daniel (we got pictures with them together as we walked in) but we wanted solo pictures. And mission number two was to try to say hey to Dierks and the guys and try to chat with them for a few minutes. We found out that Dierks was having to jet off to another show for the next day, and wasn’t going to be able to meet with anyone after the show. Of course this made me sad, but I know that Dierks has a very busy schedule.

Jessica and I left the venue, and walked down the sidewalk in hopes of getting a picture of Dierks leaving. We saw his jeep and the tour bus (unfortunately it was not Goldie). Then we saw the guys get into a white SUV. As they were pulling out, they exited through a gate that was near where Jessica and I was standing. I had brought Dierks a card, and he had the driver stop and he reached for it. He told Jessica and I both hey. And said, see y’all girls again soon.

So despite not getting to hang with Dierks and the guys after the show, it was amazing to have been there and get to see the guys perform literally five minutes from my house.

So Dierks may have been hosting Tige and Daniel’s birthday party, but it felt like another great Dierks concert!

If you want to see photos from the event, check out the album here:

DB Congress Exclusive Interview: Catching Up With Fiddlin' Dan!

Our last interview with Dierks Bentley's fiddle player, Dan Hochhalter, was in 2010, a month after he joined Team Dierks. Dan graciously agreed to play catch up with us and answer a few questions, in between the busy Riser release activities.

Dan tells us about his favorite song to sing live, what he's learned from Dierks and what Dierks has learned from him, he reveals the songs on the Riser album that he played on, and much more.

The fiddle is your main instrument—thus the nickname “Fiddlin’ Dan.”  But you also play some guitar, mandolin, banjo and ganjo (6-string banjo).  We noticed Dierks is trying to learn the banjo—what lessons are you teaching him?

Honestly, Dierks and I both started learning the 5-string banjo around the same time. I was visiting my family up in Minnesota a few summers ago, and a friend of mine had a banjo that he wanted me to take back to Nashville and get appraised. So I took his banjo back to Nashville with me and soon found myself messing around with it at home and on the bus. I think it piqued everyone's curiosity because after a few days, Dierks, Steve [Misamore, drummer], and I all were learning how to play. So, I don't know if there are any banjo lessons that I've been able to teach Dierks (or anyone!), but Tim [Sergent, steel guitar, banjo] has taught all of us a lot since he's played the banjo his whole life.

You recently posted a photo of your guitar you’ve had since you were 16 years old.  In fact, it made its Grand Ole Opry debut on February 7th! That’s amazing you still have it!  Talk about how you came to acquire it, and how did it feel playing it on the Opry for the first time?

When I was 16, I bought the guitar that you are referring to. I already had a cheap acoustic that I'd had for a year or two and wanted to get an electric guitar, so I used money that I had saved from working my summer job (construction) and doing gigs with local bands to buy it. It's an interesting instrument because Fender only made the model I wound up buying for a few years. It's an American Standard Deluxe Telecaster with two Tele pickups and a Strat pickup in the middle. Some of the first songs I learned how to play were classic country songs, so playing that guitar on the same stage where a lot of those songs were probably performed for the first time was a really cool experience.

You are playing fiddle and banjo on Dierks’ newest album, Riser.  You and the rest of the band also played/sang on the EP Country & Cold Cans.  One song on both is Back Porch.  Are there more songs on Riser that you play on?

As you know by now, "Back Porch" was re-recorded for the Riser album. But for whatever reason, they decided to keep my banjo part from the original version and put it on the new version. Brian Layson played all new solos for the Riser version as well (guitar, resonator mandolin, and ganjo). The other song that I got to play on was "Drunk On A Plane," and for that one I played fiddle.

On tour with Dierks, you’ve played on every kind of stage from live crowds in dive bars to the nationally televised Grammy Awards.  Tell us about your most memorable experience from both ends of the spectrum.
It'll be hard to top the Grammy Awards. There is just so much history and credibility associated with the Grammys, so it was a huge honor to be a part of the show. I hope that we represented Nashville well.

On the other end of the spectrum, a few years ago we played a festival in College Station, TX. The crowd was drunk, loud and crazy...so much so that they were throwing everything and anything up on the stage at all of the bands. Shirts, boots, beer cans, you name it. Normally when someone throws a full can of beer at the stage, it's a sign that the show isn't so good, but apparently it's considered a compliment at this particular festival...at least that's what we were told.

Tell us about your favorite music video experience?  We were especially impressed with your portrayal of “Ray had a date with his wife” in “Am I The Only One?”

I don't know if there was much to be "impressed" with regarding my acting skills, but I appreciate the kind words! The "Am I The Only One" video was definitely a fun one, as was the shoot for "5-1-5-0." We shot that one down in Georgia and had a blast hanging with the locals and jumping (getting pushed) into the mud pits. Outside of Dierks' videos, another fun one that I was a part of was Gretchen WIlson's "California Girls" video. That one was shot on the beach in Santa Monica, CA. It was a really fun video to shoot because we basically got to spend the day hanging out on the beach and playing carnival games on the pier. Not a bad day at the office!

You’ve had the opportunity to meet and play on stage with many music legends while touring with Dierks.  Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Joe Walsh, Bon Jovi, and most recently OneRepublic during CMT Crossroads, which aired in mid-March.  Who were you the most impressed to meet and why?

Meeting Mike McCready was so awesome for me. Pearl Jam's "Ten" album was the very first cassette tape I ever purchased as a kid back in 1991, and then a few years later I bought it again on CD. I've been a fan of theirs from the beginning, so getting to meet him and share the stage with him was amazing.

You were recently a spectator in the audience when Dierks performed his Up On The Ridge set at The Station Inn.  Did that make you feel anxious to be up on stage with him or relieved that you had a night off to relax and enjoy from the audience point of view?
It's really fun for me to sit in the audience once in a while, and I love hearing Dierks sing some bluegrass. He does a great job, and the musicians he had onstage with him that night were truly world-class.

If you could not do music for a living, what would you be doing?

That is really difficult to say. Growing up, I always fantasized about someday making a living playing music. I still pinch myself from time to time because I am so lucky to do what I do. But if not music, I probably would have found my way into the math/science world. Maybe I would have become an engineer or somehow gotten involved in finance. I've always enjoyed math and problem-solving (nerd!), so I could see myself enjoying that.

What is your favorite song to perform live?

Now that Dierks' new record is out, I love playing "Riser" every night. It's such a powerful and well-written song, and it's an easy one to get lost in.

What have you learned from Dierks and what would he say he has he learned from you?

I have learned so much from Dierks. He's the hardest working artist I've ever worked with, and I am inspired by his constant drive. He's never satisfied with "good enough" and is always striving to make the show as good as it can be. That kind of work ethic is contagious.

As far as what he's learned from me, I have no idea...maybe how to quickly run up all of the stairs at Red Rocks? Or how to score more goals in Xbox hockey?

Thanks, Dan! We'll see you on the road on the Riser Tour this summer!

DBTV 124: Real Men Don't Curl

Go team Dude! Dierks and the guys didn't let geography squash their Olympic fever.  While Sochi was not on the tour list, Niagra Falls was, and they found a local Curling Club to test their athletic ability! Could this experience make them trade in their hockey sticks for curling equipment?

Dierks Takes The Ridge To The Station Inn

Dierk Bentley started sneaking in to The Station Inn  (internationally known as the place to go in Nashville, Tennessee to hear Bluegrass and Roots Music), when he was 19 years old.  DB Congress rep, Emily Leisgang (TN), thought that was a cool connection since she was only 19 on her first time to the Station Inn to see Dierks perform.

That was just a few nights ago, when he took Up On The Ridge--his 2010 bluegrass album to the historic venue. "It was just awesome to see him in that kind of setting. As much as I love seeing him on a big stage it was really awesome to see him in a smaller setting and just have a ton of fun with it," Emily tells us.

Dierks teased earlier in the day that he was "just hanging out with some of the best pickers in town/the world. jon randall and @sam_bush. no big deal. ha!"  Later that night they joined him on stage!

"playing the greatest stage in MY world... the world famous . got a mad man on my left !"
Emily was joined by fellow DBC rep, Ashley Wardrip (TN) and together they captured some of the special moments on video. (see below).

"We waited a bit after the show and Dan [Hochhalter, Dierks' fiddle player] was waiting on him, too. Dierks came out and talked to Dan for a bit and then came right over to us and asked if we wanted a picture with him. I asked about a Riser release party and he said he hadn't even thought about it because he was so focused on this show and making that night perfect," said Ashley.

David Mattingly, DBC rep from Kentucky, made the drive to Nashville and offered his perspective:

"Dierks wanted to do an Up On The Ridge show, so he invited Sam Bush (mandolin) and Jon Randall Stewart (guitar) to play. They both helped write/perform on the Ridge album. Mike Bub (bass) and Scott Vestal (banjo) are known bluegrass musicians with credits a mile long. Jessi Alexander was there also, Jon's wife. She wrote 'The Climb' and 'I Drive Your Truck' (Lee Brice). She helped sing back up on a few songs. Jessi and Jon have a bluegrass band called "18 South" and play The Station Inn often.

Dierks was in a great mood Wednesday night.  He joked from the stage all night and it was fun to hear the other musicians tell stories of Dierks when he first started coming to The Station Inn.

A few of Dierks' regular band members were there as spectators--Tim Sergent and Dan Hochhalter.  We got some good chat time with D afterwards. He's so genuine and thanked us for coming out. They played almost all of Up On The Ridge songs and many other bluegrass tunes as well. Great to talk with Tim and Dan. RISER was the topic and its gonna be great!"

The next day, Dierks tweeted he was donating all the money from the performance to a worthy cause:

"btw, donating all the door money from our Up On The Ridge jam last night to . about $4,000. total blast! thank you"

Sounds like an incredible night, and just like our favorite artist to give it all he has to give! Thanks to Emily, Ashley and David for sharing their experience!

Meet Mariana Bowring, Dierks Bentley's 'Stand-In' Guitarist In Georgia

If you've been to a recent Dierks Bentley show, you know he usually gives one fan--who looks like they're rockin' and having a good time--an "on-stage experience of a lifetime" by pulling them out of the crowd to the stage, strapping his #7 red Fender Telecaster guitar on them and letting them jam with the band to the rest of "Lot of Leavin' Left To Do."

DB Congress member, Mariana Bowring from Georgia, was the lucky fan during the September 19, 2013 Lakewood Amphitheater show in Atlanta, Georgia.

Although Mariana's first live DB show was only a few years ago, she's been a fan "ever since I've loved country music," she admits to DB Congress.  She is a dedicated DBC-er, posting, tweeting, promoting and requesting Dierks daily!

Here's her Dierks back-story:

"The first time I saw Dierks Bentley perform was CMA Fest 2011, but I'd known about him for as long as I've loved country music. During his set he sang "Up On The Ridge" and "Draw Me A Map" (neither of those songs had I heard before) and I instantly fell in love and had to hear more of that music! So I bought the "Up On The Ridge" album, and because I loved that so much, I bought a banjo (I just had to make that same kind of music).

Then the "Home" album came out and that became the second Dierks album I bought and I loved every song! So I decided I needed to see Dierks on tour and in concert! I joined the fan club and stalked the dates for something near me. But because I kept moving, we kept missing each other.

The second time I saw him was CMA Fest 2012 and by then I was dying to see him at a real concert! He was finally coming to where I lived, but we ended moving again a month before that show. I was heart-broken. After moving, for some reason, they added an extra date and it was gonna be only two hours from me! That was the Macon, GA show where I got a Meet & Greet and got pulled on stage the first time!

I do play banjo (although I am a beginner, not at all that good at it!) And because Dierks is the reason I got a banjo, I got it signed by him at LCB (Last Call Ball annual fan club party) in June! I play guitar, sing and write songs, too. (I'm attempting a country singer-songwriter career).

The Atlanta show on September 19th was my 10th Dierks Bentley show and one that I had been looking forward to since the date was announced back in December.  I was in the pit, right up at the catwalk and only two people between me and the front of the stage.  The Cadillac Three and Randy Rogers Band were awesome openers and I especially wished RRB had done more songs!

Then, Dierks Bentley!  It was my favorite show yet (they get better and better every time)!  My favorite songs he did were "I Hold On," "5-1-5-0," "How Am I Doin','" "Feel That Fire," "Home," and of course, "Lot of Leavin' Left To Do."

I was wearing a 'The Departed' ball cap which Dierks was wearing also, so during the instrumental of LOLLTD, he turned his usually facing backwards cap around and came over to me and pulled me on stage! I was in total shock, since he had already pulled me on stage in Macon!  It was so fun to jam on the guitar and with the band! (Back in March, Dierks left the stage to let me finish the song, so I thought he'd done the same thing this time.  Turns out he was sitting behind me on stage jamming out!)

Dierks and Mariana

Mariana and Dan Hochhalter

Dierks pulls Mariana up on stage at the 2:40 mark of this video:

Later, at the end of singing, "Feel That Fire," Dierks called me out singing "This girl wants to play my guitar at the Atlanta, Georgia show," and blew me a kiss!

After "Home" and the final bow, Dierks came over with a guitar, asked if I had one yet (which I didn't), signed it, and gave it to me! I broke down crying--it was the BEST night of my life!

It was such a great concert, I'd go to it over and over!  Can't wait for show #11 in October!

Dierks Bentley's CMT Unplugged Performance to Debut May 29

Dierks Bentley's gravelly voice is distinctive even with full-blown electric.  But in "CMT's Unplugged" special, his impassioned vocal shines even brighter, with acoustic instrumentation and his band of brothers complimenting him beautifully--Dan Hochhalter's fiddle, Steve Misamore on the snare, Tim Sergent on the banjo, Cassady Feasby on guitar, Brian Layson playing dobro, and of course Dierks on his trusty Martin.
“I love breaking my songs back down to their original acoustic foundation. When I write these songs by myself or with friends, we just use acoustic guitars… so, it’s fun to sometimes go back to just the simple groove and idea you had to begin with.”
During the acoustic set, Dierks sings a few of his own hits like, "Am I The Only One,” “Up On The Ridge,” “Home,” and current single already at #13 on Mediabase, “5-1-5-0.”   But the standout song might be his poignant interpretation of Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain.” See video below.

Of the Adele cover, CMT.com says, "His signature vocals capture the remorseful tone of the song... Some covers come across like a cheap gimmick, but he shows how a great song in the hands of a great artist becomes a classic."

A few DB Congress reps were on set the day they taped the show, like Emily Morgan from Tennessee.

Dierks & Emily, 2-2-12, The Ryman
The taping was Wednesday, April 25 at the CMT studios in downtown Nashville.  The casting call for the audience was 7:45 a.m. and around 9 they were taken into the performance room. Dierks and the band  came in about 10, and the show lasted until 12:30.

"There were only about 35 people total, sitting on stools around the stage,"  Emily tells us. "Several stand-out moments come to mind.  One was when the stage manager was giving Dierks a Red Bull since it was 10 o'clock in the morning; we all needed a pick me up, so the first song was "Am I The Only One," to get the crowd going.  The band was making up lines fitting for breakfast like, 'it was Wednesday in the a.m.,' (vs. Friday in the p.m.)

They probably did 6-8 songs all at least twice to get the right sound.  Dan's fiddle playing was amazing! He is always great, but it may have been given that it was acoustic where you can focus on voices and instruments more directly, but especially on "Home."  He put chills down me and it may have been because I was sitting closely to the right of Dan, so I could hear it better.

"I know its already shown (really wish CMT would have waited on that surprise for the actual airing), but the Adele cover was last and he did it three times.  For me, he could have sang that all.day.long! Incredible! Then as a backup (in case the Adele cover didn't work) they sang "Pride."  Cassady's vocals were great as usual.

After the taping, Dierks took off his jacket while talking to Janet and me, showing us the mark his jacket had made on his arm from being too tight."

The show will debut exclusively on CMT.com Tuesday, May 29 at 1 pm/CT.

The episode will also air as a half-hour special Saturday, June 2 at 8 pm/CT on Palladia; Monday, June 25 at 9 pm/CT on CMT and CMT PURE. Fans of CMT’s Facebook page will be able to see the episode in a dedicated tab starting Tuesday, May 29.

Dierks on Easy Street - Record Store Day

Vinyl album sales are up 20% over last year to date, and Dierks Bentley was a guest of honor, performing in the fifth annual Record Store Day today at Easy Street Records in Seattle, Washington.

Although he was only one of hundreds of bands performing in record stores across the nation, Dierks featured special guests such as Mike McCready from the legendary band, Pearl Jam. Many of you will remember McCready's guitar riff at the beginning of Life On The Run, on DB's Feel That Fire album, sounding so much like a motorcycle, you almost forgot it was a guitar--that's talent!

Dierks, bassist Cassidy Feasby and fiddle player Dan Hochhalter could not contain their excitement on Twitter about getting to play music with their idols.

Below are two videos from You Tube of the cover performances..  Before "Just Breathe" be sure to listen to DB talking about the song and what it means to him.  Dierks and Team Dude also sang Feel That Fire, Am I The Only One, and Home.

Dierks Road Trip 2012: LA to Pozo

DB Congress reps, Dave and Jamie Watts, promoting our president in California, set off on a DRT (Dierks Road Trip) to Los Angeles and Pozo last weekend.  Come along with them on their journey...

Dierks Road Trip 2012
By Dave Watts (aka @DistantShore19 on Twitter)

Hey y'all (dbcongress),

If all I had to do was tell you about how awesome the first weekend of the new "Country and Cold Cans Tour" went, that would be easy. With four hours of concerts over two days, there are many memories.

Dierks was in top form playing all the number one's, along with five off the new album, mixed in with covers from artists as diverse as Buck Owens to The Foo-Fighters. The sound was great, and the new light show was top notch [thank you Chris Reade!] (In LA; lights blew out in Pozo).  But no matter what kind of fan you are, Dierks did not disappoint!  Duh! Selling out Nokia (4,300) and Pozo--wow!  Bigger, better, with a new album in tow, Dierks was incredible.

But sitting here reflecting on the weekend, all I can think about is Dierks Bentley--the person--and the Band of Brothers he has surrounded himself with.

Some of my most special moments were more personal.  They include my wife (@jkonthecoast) and Tim Sergent (steel guitar) discussing his "warm hands" and where he bought his gloves--how real is that?  Another was Cassady Feasby (bassist, aka @drfeasby) and Dan Hochhalter (aka @fiddlinDan) taking time to shake our hands and say hi.  By the way, they were NOT part of the Meet and Greet (M&G)! Dan was talking to my wife about her life and her profession.

Cassady asked how our kids were and how the drive was from LA to Pozo.  This was NOT acting.  These were real questions, real conversations, with real people. Simply genuine is how I would describe Team Dude.

And of course, there is Dierks.  During Home in LA, thanking the fans, he points to my wife (we were 28th row) and says,

"I see you, I see you DB Congress.  I’ve got the best fans in the world!"

Everyone was looking at us with our DB Congress shirts on and cheering.  It was crazy. By the way, dbcongress, when DB points at you, he really sees you.   When he says, "I see you up top, with that lil' white tank top," he really does. When Dierks says, "I love you guys," he means it!

And then of course there was show #2--Pozo, CA, where we had a M&G with our President, Mr. Dierks Bentley!  Needless to say we were  jacked up to finally get to meet Dierks after so many shows (our first was in 2006). Once DB came out and started to chat with the group, I knew this was gonna be special.  DB talked about the LCB8 and told us about his solo drive through the "woods."  Very cool getting into Dierks' head.

When it was time for the individual M&G, I was standing in line watching my wife chat with DB.  I had it all planned out.  I knew exactly what I wanted to say! Ha! What a waste of time because as I walked up to Dierks he turned, looked at me and said, "Dave...DistantShore19, right?  It's a pleasure to finally meet you!"  I was floored! A pleasure to meet ME?  He thanked me for all my tweets and constant support.

I realized at that moment, I didn’t have to tell him about all the shows I’ve been to, or all the TV performances (Leno, Ferguson, etc.) because Dierks remembered.  He sees you on Twitter/Facebook supporting him.  He sees you in the front and in the last row. Dierks is watching us, too! Dierks is a Fan of US (HIS CONGRESS). He genuinely appreciates his fans. I truly believe this is what separates Dierks from other artists.

And now he has a group of musicians ("dudes") who feel the same way about the fans.  It was simply one of the best days of our lives.

Eight years ago when I first heard Dierks, I knew I was connecting with his music on a much deeper level than with other artists (of any genre of music).  It was touching my soul.  I always believed in DB, his music and his message.  It always felt personal with Dierks, And finally getting  that once in a life-time chance to meet him only affirmed what I already knew:  Dierks, “the human being,” is what makes Dierks, “the artist/musician,” so damn special.

Thank you, Dierks.  We love you, Brother!

Dierks Better Than Tim: An Australian DBC Rep's Experience

Lee Kernaghan, Dierks Bentley & Dan Hochhalter, Brisbane, March 10

Dierks Bentley is currently on a whirlwind tour of down under in Australia, and DB Congress rep Judy and her friend Larissa were lucky enough to experience the Toowoomba and Brisbane shows on March 9 and 10, 2012.  Here's her story!

I picked up Larissa from Gold Coast airport Friday afternoon to begin our road trip to Toowoomba to see two of the best --- Lee Kernaghan & Dierks Bentley. I had received my M&G email a couple of days prior and was feeling very nervous about meeting Dierks. What a nice guy!  I was stuck for words not really sure what I said to him! SHOWTIME!  Lee was out first and was his usual best! The Empire theatre is a seated venue so there were only a few who were up dancing.  Larissa and I were on the balcony, dancing & singing.  Dierks was better than I had ever imagined!

Saturday morning we headed off to Brisbane for the next night's show at The Tivoli Theatre, which is a beautiful old theatre and STANDING! We were lucky enough to catch up with LK backstage before the show.  Dierks was there but I had had my time with him the night before. SHOWTIME! OMG! It went off, the whole place went wild--everybody was dancing, clapping, singing, girls on shoulders of guys -- it was the best crowd I have ever been in.  It was just awesome and Dierks performed brilliantly! What a guy.  He stole lots of hearts that night, especially my daughter Amy, who has only just discovered Dierks.  She can't get him of her mind, a bit like me!

I have seen many artists over the years and had always thought that nobody could match Tim McGraw live.  I was wrong! Dierks Bentley is the man, and I thank him for his wonderful music.  Please visit again!

Thanks for sharing, Judy!

Take a look at DBTV, Episode 51 to see who came out on top. The winner cries afterward, "It hurts to breathe!" Dierks Bentley's Pink Floyd Cover Still Getting Great Response

Dierks Bentley, Dan Hochhalter on fiddle, Tim Sergent on steel

Roger Waters was so moved by Dierks Bentley's cover during Pink Floyd week on the Jimmy Fallon Show, Roger wrote a note on his facebook page to thank all the musicians who performed covers, including our DBC prez, Dierks Bentley!

"Wish you were here!! Dierks, I was truly moved. I loved the fiddle, the pedal steel, you sang it beautifully, Hank Williams would have been proud of you."
Now THAT's a thank you!  Rumor has it DB has recorded "Wish You Were Here" for the Pink Floyd tribute album. We'll try to confirm that, so keep checking back for further details.

One of our very own DB Congress Reps was able to experience that night live and in person!  Read Monica's story here:

"Thanks to DB Congress I found out the Dierks would be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on September 29, 2011. Since I would be in the area, I applied for Band Bench tickets, which allow you to go onstage and stand on risers behind and beside the band. The day before the taping I got a call that I had won tickets! I flew into New York on Thursday morning just to go to see Dierks!

My friend Deanna and I arrived at 30 Rock at 4:00 pm to get our wristbands. We lined up with the other lucky Band Bench winners. Finally it was time to go inside. The first guest was Melissa McCarthy and we received her Bridesmaids DVD. Next up was Steve and JoAnn Ward, a mother and son who have a reality dating show, followed by famous photographer Mick Rock.

Then it was time to go to the stage for Dierks. I was on the stage left riser. I could see the stage door and was so excited when Dierks took the stage. The view from behind was a little different from being in the front. After the song, Dierks turned around and thanked us. The band left the stage and the show was over.

But then the stage door opened and they came out again! They were going to do another song! They taped “Home” to be used for another show. Once again Dierks turned around and said ,“Thanks!” The drummer (Steve Misamore) handed a drumstick to me and another lucky audience member. I also was able to get one of Dierks guitar picks.

We also got lucky and ran into Dierks and the band as they were leaving. Dierks took a few pictures and I told him I was part of DB Congress and he stopped to take a picture with me!"
